Pushpa Ann Kurian, Ph.D

Hello
I work with young, bright math minds to sharpen their critical and creative thinking skills, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills, to get them better prepared to face their future endeavors with confidence.
My Story
I have been proud to call Florida home since 2009. I earned my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in India, and later completed a second M.S. degree in Mathematics Teaching at Florida State University.
Since 2015, I have taught a wide range of mathematics courses across both middle and high school levels. My teaching experience includes positions in the Leon County School System (2015–2023), at the Jewish Leadership Academy in Miami (2023–2025), and currently at Eastside IB High School. I have taught courses such as Pre-IB Algebra 1 Honors, Pre-IB Geometry Honors, Pre-IB Algebra 2 Honors, AP Precalculus, and several AOPS courses.
I am also passionate about competitive mathematics. I have coached teams to major accomplishments, including State MathCounts Championships, Big Bend Chapter titles, and multiple State Ciphering Round victories. I served as a coach for the Florida State MathCounts Team in 2019 and 2023, guiding the team to second place nationally both years. I also founded two regional competitions—Fairview Math Champs and JLA Mini Mu—to provide enrichment and challenge opportunities for young mathematicians.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Mathews, and our sons, George and Jacob. I love reading, gardening, traveling, and exploring new hobbies.
